Why the sticker price is only part of the cost

Most launch monitors now ship with a free app tier and a paid membership on top. The free tier usually covers basic ball data at the range. Course play, extra metrics, longer session history, and third party simulator software tend to sit behind the yearly plan. Over five years, the plan can cost more than the device itself.

A Garmin Approach R10 at $499.99 with the Garmin Golf membership at $99.99 a year comes to $999.94 after five years. A Bushnell Launch Pro with the Gold plan at $599 a year adds $2,995 in software to a $2,999.99 device over the same period. Those two totals are very different from the gap between the two sticker prices.

How the totals are worked out

For each device, the calculator takes the device price, adds any one time software cost, then adds the yearly fee for every year you pay it. If a plan includes free years with the device, those years are skipped. The formula is simple:

Total = device price + one time software + yearly fee x (years paid)

Years paid is the number of years you own the device minus any included years. SkyTrak includes the first year of Core: Foresight with the ST MAX, so a five year total for that plan counts four paid years: $1,695 plus 4 x $299.99, or $2,894.96.

Short trials are not counted as free years. Rapsodo gives 21 days of Core with the MLM2PRO, and Garmin and Bushnell offer 30 day trials. None of those removes a full year of fees.

What each device needs to work the way most people want

Rapsodo MLM2PRO. Free practice mode shows carry distance and ball speed. Core at $199.99 a year adds spin and club data, the range modes, and simulated courses. Studios at $399.99 a year adds the 4K course library and more golfer profiles. Rapsodo bills plans yearly. Our MLM2PRO cost after year one goes further into the plan choice.

Garmin Approach R10 and R50. Both work without a membership for range practice. Garmin Golf at $99.99 a year, or $9.99 a month, adds Home Tee Hero course play and other app features.

FlightScope Mevo Gen2. There is no required subscription. FlightScope sells a 12 course E6 Connect license for a one time $250, which the calculator lets you add.

Bushnell Launch Pro. Bushnell uses Foresight+ plans: Free, Silver at $199 a year, and Gold at $599 a year. Course Pass ($295 a year) and Course Pass Pro ($595 a year) need Silver or Gold. GSPro access is $250 a year and needs Gold. The Bushnell Launch Pro review covers which plan suits which golfer.

SkyTrak ST MAX. SkyTrak offers Basic for free, Essential at $99.99, Core: Foresight at $299.99, Core: TrackMan at $349.99 and Elite at $599.99 a year. The first year of Core: Foresight is included with the device.

What this calculator leaves out

Sales tax, shipping, and the rest of a simulator setup are not included. A net, hitting mat, enclosure, projector, and PC can cost more than the monitor. Our simulator setup cost guide covers that part of the budget. Plan prices also change, and sales on devices come and go, so type in the price you see on the day you buy.

Where the prices come from

Every device price and plan fee was read on the manufacturer website on November 1, 2026. Each row links to its source. We only include prices we could confirm on an official page, so some devices are not listed yet. Use the custom row to price anything else, including a used unit or an older model.

Frequently asked questions

How is the true cost calculated?

We add the device price, any one time software cost, and the yearly membership fee for each year you pay it. If a plan includes free years with the device, those years are not charged. Taxes, shipping, and simulator hardware such as a net, mat, or projector are not included.

Where do the prices come from?

Each device price and membership fee was read on the manufacturer website on November 1, 2026. Sale prices change often, so you can type the price you actually see into the device price box and the totals update.

Which launch monitor has no subscription?

Of the devices in this calculator, the FlightScope Mevo Gen2 has no required subscription. The Garmin Approach R10 and R50, the Rapsodo MLM2PRO, the Bushnell Launch Pro, and the SkyTrak ST MAX all work with a free tier, but more features and course play sit behind a yearly plan.

Does a free trial change the totals?

No. Short trials such as Rapsodo at 21 days or Garmin and Bushnell at 30 days are shorter than a year, so they do not remove a full year of fees. Only SkyTrak includes a full first year of Core: Foresight with the ST MAX, and the calculator counts that.

Why are some launch monitors missing?

We only list prices we could confirm on an official page. SkyTrak lists the ST+ as no longer available, and we could not confirm current official pricing for the Shot Scope LM1 or the Rapsodo MLM2XPRO, so they are left out for now. Use the custom row to price any other device.
